Mia Mead | Artwork

Maria “Mia” M. Mead has lived in New England all her life. She began drawing and painting at an early age and pursued art through high school. Maria graduated from the School of the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston with a major in painting and a minor in graphics. In 1998 she began watercolor painting, preferring the transparency of the medium to oils. Although she paints in and around New England, she and her husband James traveled regularly to France where she sketched and painted in Burgundy, Provence and Champagne. Maria moved to Peterborough, NH, in 2008 after the death of her husband and quickly fell in love with the beauty of the area and the richness and vitality of the artistic community. Interested primarily in landscape painting and the effect of light and atmosphere, Maria paints still-lifes with fruit and flowers also, finding in their beauty both inspiration and challenge.
